Instagram gets new simpler design and new App icon

Popular photo video sharing app Instagram has got a brand new look! The company has now updated the icon and design for the service on mobile devices and the web. Instagram states that the new icon “represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form.”  In addition, other creative apps such as Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse from Instagram have also received an icon redesign. Instagram is rolling out the new look today on Android and iOS.

Instagram mentioned in a blog post, “The Instagram community has evolved over the past five years from a place to share filtered photos to so much more a global community of interests sharing more than 80 million photos and videos every day. Our updated look reflects how vibrant and diverse your storytelling has become.”

Apart from the colourful new rainbow-like icon design, the app on the whole has also received an “experimental” black-and-white theme/design. The colours in the icon offer a blend of purple to pink to orange and yellow, which actually is in line with Instagram’s traditional rainbow badge, spotted in the older design. Also, instead of the blue and white colour scheme, it has now been taken over by a clean white background with text highlighted in black. The over simplified UI now makes it easy to navigate around the service as well.
