BlackBerry Priv gets Android Marshmallow update

BlackBerry-Priv-Android-6.0-Marshmallow

BlackBerry has started rolling out the Android Marshmallow update for the Priv  smartphone globally including India. The update is being rolled out to unlocked units of the Priv at the moment, but will also be released to the carrier versions of the device starting May 3rd.  The update comes with the usual Android Marshmallow features, including the battery saving doze mode and latest Android security patches.

The Android Marshmallow update for the BlackBerry Priv comes with S/MIME feature in BlackBerry Hub to let you digitally sign and encrypt your emails. The update brings customised personal data permissions for apps, clearer notification settings, enhanced BlackBerry keyboard with more than 200 new emojis, new keyboard gestures, enhanced word prediction and better cursor controls. The new firmware also comes with some new camera features, including 24fps modes for 1080p and 720p videos, and a 120fps slow motion video recording mode. After the update, the autofocus is slightly faster, but the photo quality is largely unchanged.

The BlackBerry Priv’s Android Marshmallow update is being rolled out over the air in phases, so not everyone will get it right away. You will be automatically notified to update your device. If you haven’t received the automatic update notification, then you can also do a manual check by going to Settings – About device – Software update.
